Queen's Birthday Celebrations

By PaisleyJade - Monday, June 07, 2010

What a week of birthdays!  Today in New Zealand we are celebrating our Queen's birthday, and what better way to celebrate that than to have a posh picnic tea party for lunch (big thanks to Simone for the inspiration!!).

The girls got their beads and crowns on.  Cupcakes, club sandwiches and coconut ice were made.  The tea pot was filled with juice and the red posh tablecloth was spread out on the deck.

You may be wondering where the photo's of the boys are... they were invited along too, but alas they didn't quite turn up in their "posh Queen's party gears".  Dad was wearing his old slippers and some garish Hawaiian shorts and all of the boys were sporting their "bed hair" look.  I think for some people the Queen's birthday is basically an excuse to sleep in and then wander around the house all day in their pajamas!

Let's just pretend the boys were our servants.

Anyway, we had a lovely time nibbling on our posh lunch and discussing our Queen Elizabeth and who would be next to take the throne one day.  A very interesting subject.

Happy Birthday Queen Elizabeth, and happy day off everyone else!!

  2. Very lovely!

It makes me chuckle that England doesn't even have a Bank Holiday to celebrate the Queen's Birthday!

  4. Ha! I love it!
That photo of your servants mooching around made me smile.

I think NZ has the old birthday of whichever monarch was reigning before Elizabeth II.
They kept the same date (first weekend in June) for convenience sake. We don't even really know when Lizzies actual birthday is. But we don't mind, because we are just glad of the day off, to mooch around in our PJs. And have posh teaparty lunches. Go Kristy!

  6. Servants? Thats a nice way of putting it. Ever wonder why we look so bedraggled? 18 hour days with barely a break while PJ and her cohorts have tea partys all day.

My hubby told Miss 4 she is related to the queen so she is telling everyone!!!(but she's not!) A posh tea party is definately in order - GREAT IDEA!!! (although it is the day after the wild west party :/)

  10. Will definitely have to remember this idea for next year - what a great way to celebrate - although you don't really need to excuse for a tea party! x

  14. hahahah...Ohh I love this post! And sorry boys but yes you do look like the servants!! You should be lucky you were allowed to dine with the royal-bloods!! heehee.
    That's cute!
And Im one of the ones who likes to use the day to slob round in my PJ's!! I would do a gig in my PJ's if I didn't think it would harm our chances of re-bookings! ;)

  15. I love this idea! Having a good dress up box is a MUST for all occasions. Impromptu or otherwise. According to my husband, the Queen's real birthday is the same as his, 21st April. I've just done a little google search, so I don't embarrass myself completely, and it appears he is correct.

  17. I am cracking up right now... I just realised that one of your commenters: "PJ's slave and sons" MUST be Mr Drake! Oh I am snorting, it's not pretty. he is too funny. Is that his new blog identity? Very suitable I would think. {snort and cackle}

  18. I have tea party envy - usually do when anything pink or pretty is involved! I could introduce servants next year... and a Grand Cup Holder, the King or Queen always had one of those...

  19. I heard on the radio a while ago when the Queen's birthday REALLY is - can't remember when but it was ages ago - in April or something possibly.
