The making of me...

By PaisleyJade - Monday, March 19, 2012

A long time ago I discovered that the making of me was actually in the breaking of me.

It is such a painful realisation to come to, but once you have discovered it, it can make life a whole lot easier and the tough experiences you go through, as valuable as gold.

Our world promotes things like wealth, position, beauty and fame, but something much more precious and noble often gets no applause or praise... character.

I'm sure you know people of character, and I bet that you respect and love them for it.  The thing we must remember is that often character is forged in the darkest and deepest valleys, and often these journeys are walked in silence and alone.

Sometimes I wish that life was all about the mountain top experiences, but when I look back, those dark and hard moments are the ones that I often hold in deep respect, because of what they taught me and the realness that they forced to grow deep down in my soul.

Strangely, in most circumstance when I look back, I can honestly say that in those moments there were aspects of beauty, rendered from the fire.

God is amazing, and I love that He can bring beauty out of anything, anything at all.

So whatever struggle you are going through, whether it's loneliness, loss, strained relationships right through to the rawest and most difficult pain, make sure that you don't miss the precious gold that is waiting to be unearthed.

It's moments like these when you feel like you are broken and your world is falling apart - they can either destroy you or become the making of you.

"He (God) will give them beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning,
the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness..."  Isaiah 61v3

  2. Oh Kristy... This has soooo been confirmation to me that what I have been sharing with a group of new christian friends is "timely".... I shared how I have had a lot of "valley times" in my life, that in hindsight have been the real "shaping" of not just me, but my whole family. Times where we have had to be on our knees...on our faces and crying out to God. I shared how I believed the times where we are stripped right back.......have nothing to "hold onto" basically...are the times where we really have to cleave to God...and give it all up to him...and when we come out the other side, Man.. oh man.. we have a new respect and love for God, and we are that much stronger for it... (anyway I'm ranting and raving...) I'm just excited that this is what's been on my heart lately too!
    Love lots xxx

  3. So very true. I am not a religious person but I have had 2 terrible experiences in my life that whilst I would have loved that they never happened, in hindsight I know that they have formed me into the person I am today.

  17. So true. It's *funny* how we like to avoid hard times and strive for good, happy, peaceful, successful times...when the real gold comes from the struggles and dark moments. I love God's logic...so opposite to my own so much of the time, but so much better. Thanks for writing this as a reminder :)
