Things I'm Loving...

I wholeheartedly believe that no matter what is happening in your life, there is always something that you can be thankful for... no matter how simple it is.

Here are a few of the things I am loving at the moment...

Loving my extra large mug!  This baby can hold 2 cups - and sometimes 2 cups of coffee is just perfect (but not too often)...

Loving our new family board game!  Apparently one of the best out there - anyone else have Ticket to Ride?

Loving my favourite microwave chocolate pudding recipe.  Easy to make and perfectly declicious!

Loving yarn, in any colour...

Loving Kiwiana cards.  My Great Grandmother used to have her own set of flying ducks on her wall.

Link love - Loving Timmy Curren's free music!  He's a surfer (one of my childhood surfing heroes), a believer and awesome musician. Loving PicMonkey, especially now that Picnik is disappearing from freebie land!  Loving this list of Craft Blogs - great inspiration out there.

Crochet Pixie Hat

I've been wanting to find a cute and easy pixie hat pattern for a while now, and stumbled across this the other day.

Cute isn't it!?!

I'm now working on a burnt orange beanie for my amazing (and orange obsessed) friend Tracy, who is shaving  ALL of her hair off this weekend to raise funds for Leukaemia & Blood Cancer research.

She's amazing - support her here (or should I say support her hair)!!

♥ Monday ♥

Best Monday in ages... hanging with my bestie, shopping, movies and coffee...

Then later, soul food and silence...

And then while Symon went and picked up the kids from school I decided to burn a slice in the oven and send smoke pouring out of the windows of the house.

He actually rushed in when he got home, calling out to see if I was alright.  It's nice to be loved.

I LOVE Mondays.

p.s. I really hate cleaning out ovens.

Blondies

I love Brownies (this is my favourite recipe here).  Recently I discovered Blondies, a non-chocolate, brown sugary version of Brownies, and totally delicious!

I didn't have the recommended butterscotch chips to put into my mix, but chocolate chips worked out fine.

So yum - keen to make these again soon!

Ingredients
½ cup of butter, melted
·     1 cup of tightly packed dark brown sugar
·     1 egg, lightly beaten
·     1 teaspoon of vanilla
·     ½ teaspoon baking powder
·       teaspoon of baking soda
·     Pinch of salt
·     1 cup of all-purpose flour
·      cup of butterscotch chips (chopped walnuts and chocolate chips are equally tasty)
Method
Preheat the oven to 175°C. Lightly butter and flour a pan. Whisk together the melted butter and sugar in a bowl.
Add the egg and vanilla extract and whisk.
Add the flour, baking soda, baking powder, and salt, mix it all together. Add the butterscotch chips or other mix-ins.
Pour into the pan and spread evenly. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Allow to cool. Cut into squares and serve.

As you can see, Boo likes Blondies too.

Things I'm Loving...

I wholeheartedly believe that no matter what is happening in your life, there is always something that you can be thankful for... no matter how simple it is.

Here are a few of the things I am loving at the moment...

Loving making AND eating Blondies (no, I'm not referring to my blonde children).  This slice is like a Brownie minus the cocoa (get it - brownie... blondie).  Will share the recipe next week.

Loving this book, and can't wait to see the movie!

Loving it when my kids beg me to take photos of them...

Loving it when my kids are strong enough to say 'no' to me taking photos of them...  ;)

Is it crazy of me to secretly enjoy occasionally playing with my girl's Blythe dolls?

Looooooooooooooooooooooving Whittaker's White Macadamia Chocolate!!!  Seriously good (but maybe not as good as the Lindt Bunny I bought for my friends birthday last week, then ate with Symon that night) .  Whoops - sorry Nina.

Loving the amazing blessings that come along my path in the form of precious family and friends (you know who you are).  Thank you!

Amigurumi Mushroom

I'm pretty proud of this little mushroom.  He sort of came about by accident (just think cupcake gone wrong) and I somehow managed to salvage my disaster and turn it into this cute guy.

He reminds me of the Mario mushroom (hence my Mario obsessed son got to pose for the blog pic).

p.s. isn't he growing up so fast!?!?!

The making of me...

A long time ago I discovered that the making of me was actually in the breaking of me.

It is such a painful realisation to come to, but once you have discovered it, it can make life a whole lot easier and the tough experiences you go through, as valuable as gold.

Our world promotes things like wealth, position, beauty and fame, but something much more precious and noble often gets no applause or praise... character.

I'm sure you know people of character, and I bet that you respect and love them for it.  The thing we must remember is that often character is forged in the darkest and deepest valleys, and often these journeys are walked in silence and alone.

Sometimes I wish that life was all about the mountain top experiences, but when I look back, those dark and hard moments are the ones that I often hold in deep respect, because of what they taught me and the realness that they forced to grow deep down in my soul.

Strangely, in most circumstance when I look back, I can honestly say that in those moments there were aspects of beauty, rendered from the fire.

God is amazing, and I love that He can bring beauty out of anything, anything at all.

So whatever struggle you are going through, whether it's loneliness, loss, strained relationships right through to the rawest and most difficult pain, make sure that you don't miss the precious gold that is waiting to be unearthed.

It's moments like these when you feel like you are broken and your world is falling apart - they can either destroy you or become the making of you.

"He (God) will give them beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning,
the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness..."  Isaiah 61v3

My Creative Space...

There has been a teeny tiny bit of time found (I had to search frantically around the house of my life and there it was hiding under the bed - boy, I'm sounding all poetic!!) to sneak in some crochet this last weekend.

Check out my Red Velvet Cupcake and friend.  I loooooove this cupcake pattern.  It's simple to follow and available for free from Nimoe's Blog (here), along with lots of other free amigurumi patterns.

Keep Calm and Carry On...

Keep Calm and Carry on.

This slogan and poster has become very popular in recent years, with many spin-offs and some people sick of it altogether...

I noticed the clip below the other day, and thought it was pretty awesome knowing the history behind this somewhat common phrase.

Despite everyone being sick of it by now, I still think it's got a pretty nifty history.

p.s. check out the amazing bookshop!!!

So there you have it, my history lesson for the week.

1000 posts later...

Would you believe it!?!?  This is the 1000th post on my blog.

Makes me wonder how in the world a girl who never really liked English at school could ramble on for 1000 posts!

I didn't have a clue what a blog was until my lovely friend Anya sent me the link to Rebecca's blog about 5 years ago.  Rebecca is an amazing mum of 4, who inspired me with her fun family ideas as well as her honesty about life and her faith.

So it was then, 5 years ago, that I decided I would start to blog about our family, the things I loved to bake and make and do with my crazy husband and children (and the zoo-load of pets we've had along the way).

So 1000 posts later and what have I learned?  I've learned that unless you grab and remember special moments, they can easily slip by and be forgotten.  Moments with friends, special memories with my family, things that brighten my day.  I've also learned that God can take little things that you say and do and majorly impact and encourage others.

I've been inspired by many out there in blogland, made some precious friends, learned that most bloggers out there aren't actually self-obsessed people (like I thought they were before I started my own - hehe) but genuine people who love to write, share, communicate and be inspired.

So here's to all the amazing bloggers out there who inspire me, and also the readers who regularly comment and encourage me every day.
